During a cabinet meeting, Florida governor Rick Scott mistakenly gave out the number of a phone sex line instead of the hotline for people to get information about a devastating fungal meningitis outbreak that has affected potentially over 13,000 people, reports Yahoo.com.
As previously reported by NewsOne, 75 clinics in 23 states, administered preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate, provided by New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Mass., to patients suffering with joint and back pain. A fungus that causes bacterial meningitis was found to have contaminated sealed vials of the steroid, leading to a voluntary recall and the The Food and Drug Administration urging physicians not to use any products at all from the pharmacy.

He corrected himself about 20 minutes later after a caller into a radio station notified them of the error. When concerned people called the number they heard a message that said: “Hello boys, thank you for calling me on my anniversary.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 138 people have contracted meningitis and 12 have died.
