This one’s for all my UC Football Fans out there, who are very shocked, dissappointed, and upset about Brian Kelly taking the coaching position at Notre Dame. We’re all thinking : “How could he go against his word? He said he loved Cincinnati, and he wasn’t going anywhere.” Well it turned out, from yesterday, we were all wrong. So what do we do now? Do we doom and gloom, do we put away our UC Football jersey, do we watch something else on New Years Day instead of the Sugar Bowl? I mean, come on, what’s the point of rooting for our team now that the college football coach of the year has left us?

This situation sounds familiar. Doesn’t it remind you of the time when you broke up with your first love? You spend weeks beating yourself up, thinking “Why did he/she leave? I thought we were gonna be together forever.”  What about the time when you worked so hard at your job, and when you least expect it, you later find out you’re laid off by your boss? Or how about the time you wished the gossip queen, in your church, would just stop spreading rumors about other people. These are all situations, where we feel helpless and powerless over a situation that we want to control.

I had an inspiring moment yesterday when i logged onto my facebook account. Just a few minutes when they made the announcement of Brian Kelly leaving, i saw this facebook group called, “Time to support OUR team”.  In the description area, it read :

What we need to do now is SUPPORT OUR TEAM!!!!

These young men have not made a single penny, they play hard because they love football, the same as you and I. The worse that we could do as fans is to abandon them, just like BK. We need to show our support now more than ever, go to the bowl if you can afford to, cheer loud, wear your red and black proud. And lets continue to do so for many years to come. Let’s show Brian Kelly that we don’t need him to be a successful program.

Thanks for the kick start Kelly, we’ll take it from here.

Wow, talk about optimism right there!! When i looked at the number of members in the group, there were 1,008 members!! 1,008 MEMBERS!! It blows my mind that just minutes after the dreadful annoucement came up, a core group as large as 1,000 people were so optimistic. Imagine the things one can do if they were surrounded by these 1,000 optimistics.

There are two lessons we can learn from this. The first one is we can cannot control everything and everyone in our life. We are not in control of Brian Kelly’s decisions, Brian Kelly is.  We may be able to influence his decision, but in the end Brian Kelly decides for Brian Kelly. Let him go! What’s more important is that we join those 1,000 optimistic UC fans, and turn it into 100,000 or even 1,000,000 optimistic UC fans.  Bottom line is that when your surrounded by positive people, you do positive things. Keep your head up!!!

GO BEARCATS, lets have less of this:
