This morning, the Cleveland home where Ariel Castro held Michelle KnightAmanda Berry and Gina DeJesuscaptive for nearly a decade was destroyed. Last week, Castro pleaded guilty to 937 charges and was sentenced to life in prison plus and additional 1,000 years.

Part of the plea deal that spared his life required that he sign the deed to the Seymour Avenue home over to Cuyahoga County. $22,000 was found in a washing machine inside of the home; that went towards the demolition.

Last week, Michelle Knight—who Castro held hostage the longest—returned to the neighborhood for the first time since being freed on May 6. She said she hoped a park with a statue of an angel was built in place of Castro’s home.
