The Chicago Teachers Union announced Wednesday that it will launch a one-day strike on April Fool's Day, and is asking the entire city to join them in their efforts. The union says the impetus for the strike is a call for justice although there are several competing aims, DNAinfo Chicago reports
On Monday in Detroit, Mich., a so-called "sickout" left nearly two-thirds of the city's public school system closed as teachers instead rallied together to address health and safety concerns.
The Chicago Teachers Union voted to stay on strike, at least through Tuesday. Mayor Rahm Emanuel is planning to seek a court order today to halt the walkout.
