A rich tradition in the Queen City will make it’s return to the city’s center this weekend as Cincinnati’s annual Pride Festival makes it way downtown after eight years.

Since 2002, the Cincinnati Pride Festival has been a staple in the LGBT community hosting its annual events in Northside, but the festival has outgrown the tiny streets of the gay-friendly neighborhood. For those not in the loop, pride festivals all over the world grew out of gay rights protests in the early 70s.

Many communities now have festivities that include outdoor block parties and even drink specials at local bars. All of this and more had been conveniently held in Northside’s Hofner Park and throughout many street blocks beginning at Hamilton Avenue.

This year, the Pride Festival is expected to draw an eclectic group of party goers and supporters alike for a variety of activities in and around the Fountain Square area. Events include fireworks right in time for the 4th of July holiday, live performances at city center venues and an elaborate parade.

Just so you know, the parade officially steps off promptly at 11:00AM on Sunday with the festival immediately following. DJ Roger will spin dance grooves from 4:00-6:00PM, followed by more entertainment on the stage on Fountain Square.
