A principal in Michigan arranged a black students only field trip for 30 students to meet a black rocket scientist. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to foresee the problems this segregated field trip would cause. In fact, white parents are outraged and white students booed the students after their visit to hear Alec Gallimore speak at the University of Michigan.
The principal, Mike Madison, wanted the students to see and meet Mr. Gallimore because of his level of achievement- he is an aerospace engineering professor and propulsion lab director. Principal Madison hoped that this trip would inspire the students to achieve.
The white parents said- yeah, but it’s illegal. How can you exclude our children.
