An Assemblywoman from New York is working pass a law that bans hymen exams to determine virginity.  She believes the exams are invasive and not medically necessary.  This is on the heels of the revelation that rapper T.I. has his daughter go through a yearly exam so that he is satisfied that she is still a virgin.  Many think the practice is wrong and want it to stop.

Health officials have said that they exam is unscientific and even sexist.  The World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics has said that the procedure is not medically necessary as well.  Assemblywoman Michaelle c. Solages says she wants medical procedures to “meet the highest ethical standards” as she pushes for the bill to become law.
