Rapper Cool C to Be Executed Next January
Christopher Roney, who is better known as rapper Cool C, will face the death penalty after spending years on death row for the murder of a female police officer during a bank robbery. In 1996 Roney, his mentor Warren McClone, and Philly-bred rapper Mark Canty attempted to rob a PNC Bank and left Police Officer Lauretha Vaird slain. During his career Cool C released five albums on Ruffhouse Records and was known for his hit “The Glamourous Life.” Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has signed an execution warrant for Roney. He is slated to be executed on January 8, 2015. Canty and McClone, the two men who committed the crime with Roney, are both serving life terms in prison. Read more.
Lebron James Jersey Sells for $50K
One of the biggest stories in sports this year was LeBron James’ return to Cleveland. When he left his hometown to play for the Miami Heat, videos of Cleveland fans burning his jersey circulated around the internet; now that he has returned his jerseys are valued once again. According to ESPN.com a jersey worn by James during the second half of his regular season return to Cleveland was recently sold for $50,040. He donned the jersey while playing in a season opener against the New York Knicks. James netted 17 points in the game. Read more.
