President Obama will host republican Mitt Romney for a private lunch at the White House today.
It will be their first meeting since the election.
It’s the president making good on a pledge he made during his victory speech? He tells the Wall Street Journal:
“We may have battled fiercely, but it’s only because we love this country so deeply. … In the weeks ahead I look forward to talking with Governor Romney to talk about how we can move this country forward.”
Though the campaign itself got ugly, on election night, both men were complimentary of each other. Check out the video above to hear Romney’s respect for the president.
