Were you embarrassed when you heard the comments about Gabby Douglas’s hair? It’s okay, you’re not alone. Jacque Reid was too.

What was even more embarrassing, Jacque explained, was being asked by her white counterparts over why black people were talking about her hair so badly. Why aren’t people celebrating her accomplishments instead of critiquing her hair style?

When asked about her hair,in an interview, Gabby is using a combination of gel, clips, and a ponytail to keep her hair in place, while she competes. In response to the criticisms, Gabby said

“I don’t know where this is coming from. I just made history, and people are focused on my hair. Nothing is going to change. You might as well stop talking about it.”
