As of April 7, 2025, the Ohio River has reached a water level of 60.70 feet, marking the highest crest in over seven years. This significant rise follows several days of heavy rainfall across the Ohio Valley, leading to widespread flooding in the downtown, Newport, and Covington areas.

The Ohio River has a history of notable flooding events in Cincinnati. Prior to the current situation, the river last exceeded 60 feet in February 2018, cresting at 60.53 feet. The most severe flood on record occurred in 1937, when the river reached an unprecedented 80 feet.
The rising waters have led to the closure of several roads and parks along the riverfront. Authorities have installed floodgates in vulnerable areas, such as the Riverfront Transit Center. Several garages have been closed off as well.
