The jobless rate is a topic that is not only weighing on the minds of many African-Americans, but with Black scholars and politicians across the country too.

But despite the fact that the jobless rate is something affecting all, many Blacks have to deal with discriminatory hiring practices as well.

With this as an issue, many Black Americans are struggling to find jobs at companies interested in diversity.

Some states have already taken issue with employers who post stories saying the “unemployed cannot apply” like New Jersey. In the garden state, Governor Chris Christie signed a law that outlaws companies from posting job listings with that text. Violators can be fined up to $1,000 for the first offense and up to $5,000 for subsequent offenses.

While many just think African-Americans are the only ones affected by job hiring discrimination, women are too. Older workers also suffer from high rates of discrimination when applying for a job.

In the end, the belief that the jobless aren’t good for your business isn’t only discriminatory, but bad business.
