A man from New York who bilked charities of $160,000 by claiming his son died in the World Trade Center during the terror attacks, has been approved to be released from prison and deported to his native country.

Cyril Kendall, 61, was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison, but will be released almost 10 years early, on the terms that he is deported to Guyana.

He claimed his youngest son, Wilfred, 29, was killed in the terror attacks while attending a job interview on the 91st floor of the north tower.

His biggest target was the American Red Cross, which was bilked of $119,000 – the most fraudulently obtained by a single individual.
