Traditional gospel fans can celebrate the tentative release of brand new music from one of gospel’s legendary names. Today, we’re congratulating the musical achievements of Evelyn Turrentine Agee, who recently signed with Shanachie Entertainment and has plans for a brand new album in store for us. The Detroit-based vocalist is known for her 2001 smash hit “God Did It,” but just in case you don’t know much about her, check out the details below.
Born into a family of 18 children in St. Louis, Ms. Turrentine-Agee moved to Detroit in 1962 where she currently resides. Ms. Turrentine-Agee began singing with her father when she was three and has sung with many gospel groups including the Gospel Echoettes and The War on Sin Choir. As previously stated, her single, “God Did It,” was a big success receiving several nominations and awards all across the country. We’re still tapping our toes to that one today believe it or not.
Agee joins a group of talented voices and familiar faces in gospel on Shanachie Entertainment’s current roster of artists including Kim Burrell, Ted Winn, Vicki Yohe and Benita Washingon as part of the growing label. Her new release with the label is tentatively slated to hit stores September 28th of this year.
