Another fallen soldier has been named this week. Bellevue High School recently learned on yesterday that Pfc. Russell Madden, a graduate of the school, had been killed in Afghanistan. Full details of Madden’s death have not yet been released.

In honor of Madden, the flag at Bellevue High School is now flying at half-staff to publicly commemorate his servitude on behalf of our country. The Northern Kentucky community and a few of Madden’s former classmates are also gathering to remember their son, their friend, and their soldier as well. Madden leaves behind a wife and two sons.

Madden is unfortunately the second soldier from our area to die while serving the U.S. overseas this week. Specialist Jacob Dohrenwend of Milford also died on this past Monday while serving in Iraq.

How do you send your condolences to the family and friends of our fallen soldiers? We all just took a moment to celebrate their contributions to our nation’s safety on Memorial Day this time last month, but it never seems to get any easier to lose a loved one this way. Thank you again to all of the soldiers we’ve lost in combat. Thank you for your lives, for your sacrifice and for being respectable men and women we are proud to call our own.
