Interesting reports this week come from the University of Cincinnati where up to two dozen employees are on the chopping block and might lost their jobs at the beginning of next month.

The layoffs would come shortly after news of the efforts to balance the budget for the next year. Already 120 people were laid off last year and the university hopes to actually avoid the 24 layoffs if possible.

It doesn’t look like that will happen as the new fiscal year begins July 1st. Millions of dollars have been set aside to fill in the gaps left over from the $28 million federal stimulus gift, a set of funds that will disappear at the end of this year. So layoffs seem like they’re pretty much guaranteed at this point.

Cincinnati, how do you feel about the reports of more layoffs at UC? Do you know anyone currently working there or do you work there yourself? Let us know how the economy impacts spending when it comes to educational institutions like UC in your own words.
