Okay, I know what you thinking. What’s a flash mob and why does she have a flash mob story. I have a flash mob story because it’s all part of my 2011 master plan to do more, be more and give more.
It started with a conversation about networking, volunteering, and really living- really moving.
So, I’m on Facebook looking at “events” for some things to do, looking for opportunities to network, volunteer, have some fun and I see an invitation to join a group for a Flash mob performance.
A flash mob (or flashmob) is a term coined in 2003 to denote a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment and/or satire. (wikipedia).
That’s what happened. We assembled at Newport On The Levee, performed a fun choreographed dance number and a minute and half later- it was over. A group of people who assembled in a public place and performed a dance and then we dispersed. I have to think for the hundreds who gathered to watch I think we made them smile.
However, while it was fun, it served a bigger purpose. The Flash mob is a part of a national social media weekend sponsored by The Marcus Graham Project called the Boomerang Effect II. Cincinnati is one of 11 cities participating. The Marcus Graham Project launched a 60 hour campaign calling for volunteerism, community service and change.
