We are celebrating and remembering our heroes during this Memorial Day. The following events take place in the Tri-State area. Find one close to you and join us as we pay honor and tribute to our soldiers.

CINCINNATI

DOWNTOWN/COVINGTON

A Memorial Day Bridge Walk and Flag Raising will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Monday on the Roebling Suspension Bridge. The first 250 walkers to complete the round-trip walk from Covington will receive a commemorative gift. Walkers can register for the walk on the Kentucky side of the bridge. Guided tours of the bridge will also be available during the walk.

EDEN PARK

Service sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 10 will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Eden Park. The event will feature a speaker, a band from the University of Cincinnati and a color guard. The final concert of the 38th season of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, led by Jose-Luis Novo, will take place at 3 p.m. Monday at Seasongood Pavilion. The concert is free.

MOUNT WASHINGTON

A bus tour of five cemeteries will depart at 7 a.m. Monday from American Legion Post 484, 1837 Sutton Ave. A short ceremony and playing of taps will take place at each cemetery. The annual parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. from Oxford Avenue in front of Stanbery Park. Refreshments will be served at the Legion post after the parade.

WESTWOOD

Fairmount Post 4962 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold the 82nd Memorial Day Observance at 10 a.m. Monday at the new mausoleum in Baltimore Pike Cemetery, 3200 Costello Ave. Guest speaker will be The Rev. Edward E. Daley of Fairmount Methodist Church. A reception at the site will follow.

BLUE ASH

Free Admission to Kings Island to military personnel Memorial Day weekend

Kings Island’s Tribute to the Armed Forces program will offer a free regular admission ticket to any active or retired military personnel on the Sunday and Monday of both Memorial Day and July 4th weekends. Along with free admission, active and retired members of the military will be able to purchase discount admission tickets for members of their immediate family (maximum of six) at a special military discount price of $29.99. A valid military ID must be presented at the Kings Island ticket window May 30, May 31, July 4 and July 5 to receive this offer.

The 50th Annual Blue Ash Civic League Community Parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. Mondaynear the intersection of Cooper Road and Reed Hartman Highway. The parade will end at the Veterans Memorial, Hunt and Cooper roads, where a ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. The keynote speaker will be U.S. Rep. Rob Portman, R-Terrace Park. The 122nd Army Band will perform.

Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony Orchestra Memorial Day Concert – Dix’s “Grand American Fantasy” and Richard Rodgers’ “Victory at Sea,” plus two movements from Brahms’ “Symphony No. 1 in C Minor.” Second half features Blue Ash Youth Symphony, Dale Swisher, director. CHEVIOT

Parade begins at 11 a.m. Monday at Bridgetown Road and Harrison Avenue in front of Cheviot Elementary School and proceeds to Harvest Home Park on North Bend Road. The parade will be followed by a short ceremony.

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP

St. Ann’s Memorial Weekend Carnival will be 6-11 p.m. today, 3-11 p.m. Sunday and 3-10 p.m. Monday on the church grounds at 2940 W. Galbraith Road. Activities include food, rides and games of chance and skill. Shuttle service runs from Builders First Source and Staples. Crown Hill Memorial Park, 11825 Pippin Road, will hold a tribute to families at 1 p.m. Sunday. The service will include an invocation with bagpipe accompaniment. Veterans will be honored at 1 p.m. Monday with taps, bagpipes and a special reading.

GLENDALE

Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Glendale Elementary School and winds through the village to the War Memorial on Sharon Road. Ceremony featuring state Sen. Richard Finan will follow. Sections of Congress and Sharon roads, as well as some side streets, will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon.

GREEN TOWNSHIP

The 11th annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Flag Raising will take place at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Veterans Park, 6231 Harrison Ave. in Dent. An M-60A3 Army tank will be open for tours noon to 3 p.m. The program is sponsored by the Green Township trustees, and parks committee and VFW Post 10380.

INDIAN HILL

Observance at Armstrong Chapel, 5125 Drake Road, at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Ceremony will feature a flag raising by Boy Scout Troop 502.

LOVELAND

Annual observance will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial at the River Bridge. The Loveland High School Band will participate in services at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park at Riverside Drive and West Loveland Avenue. American Legion Post 256 and VFW Posts 5354 and 5749 will conduct a ceremony at these cemeteries: Maineville, 11:15 a.m.; Union, 11:45 a.m.; Kerr, 12:15 p.m. Each ceremony will include an invocation and benediction by Jim Cocklin, the playing of taps and the singing of the national anthem. Flowers will be placed at each cemetery.

MOUNT HEALTHY

A flag-raising ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at Neihard-Hensley Funeral Home on Hamilton Avenue. Parade begins at 2 p.m. and travels from Adams Road south on Hamilton Avenue, east on Kinney Street and north on Perry Street to the Veterans Memorial.

NORTH COLLEGE HILL

Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thriftway, 1535 W. Galbraith Road at Goodman Avenue. It will proceed along Goodman, Hamilton, Centerridge and LaBoiteaux avenues, ending at City Hall, 1646 W. Galbraith Road, where a closing ceremony and dedication of a new monument will take place.

READING

The 45th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Festival will be held 2-11 p.m. today, 2-11 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Koenig Park. The festival includes food, rides and games of chance. Live entertainment will be featured tonight and Sunday evening. A softball tournament will take place throughout the event and a three-on-three basketball tournament will be held today and Sunday.

A VFW/American Legion parade that begins at 9 a.m. on Wyoming Avenue in Lockland will join with participants in Reading at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the bridge between Lockland and Reading. It will conclude with services at Reading Cemetery on Columbia Avenue.

A Crossroads Celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today on Benson Street between Reading Road and Jefferson Avenue. Residents can enjoy free carriage rides, a roaming barbershop quartet, ice cream social, sidewalk sale, silent auction and an exhibit of student art displayed in the lobbies of Valley Central Savings Bank and Fifth Third Bank. Children under 12 can participate in a scavenger hunt.

SHARONVILLE

Parade will begin at noon Monday at VFW Post 4369, 3318 E. Sharon Road. It will proceed along Reading and Cornell roads to Maple Street, then east on Creek Road to Thornview and end at Patriot Pointe Veterans Memorial. At 12:30 p.m., a ceremony at the memorial will feature a keynote speech by state Rep. Wayne Coates.

SILVERTON/SYCAMORE

Sycamore Post 3744, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will hold a parade and services Monday. Services will be at 9:45 a.m. at the Silverton Veterans Memorial, near the train station on Montgomery Road. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. and participants will proceed to the Veterans Memorial in Chamberlain Park at 7640 Plainfield Road in Deer Park. After a service at that memorial, the parade will continue to Bechtold Park, 4312 Sycamore Road in Sycamore Township, where a final service will be conducted.

TERRACE PARK

A special ceremony of remembrance will take place at 10 a.m. Monday on the village green in the center of town. The village will honor those who have participated in military service and will dedicate a flag-raising to the victims of Sept. 11, including Terrace Park native Doug Cherry, who died at the World Trade Center. The ceremony will follow a short parade.

BUTLER COUNTY

FAIRFIELD

Parade starts at 12:45 p.m. Monday from the parking lot of Merck-Medco Rx Services at Hicks Boulevard and Ohio 4. The parade ends at Fairfield Veterans Memorial Park, 701 Wessel Drive. Ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. at the park. Ceremonies include the dedication of a new Patriots’ Path walkway and a new bronze statue called “Poppies.” Events also include a helicopter flyover and bagpipe and patriotic music. Winners of the parade float contest and the poster and essay contests will be announced.

HAMILTON

Memorial Celebration will be held 10 a.m. to noon Monday may 27 at the Monument Cabin on Monument Avenue in downtown Hamilton. Costumed volunteers will talk about daily life during the days of Fort Hamilton.

MIDDLETOWN

A candlelight vigil will be held at 9:30 p.m. today at Woodside Cemetery and Arboretum, Fourteenth Avenue and Woodside Boulevard at Verity Parkway

Grand Marshall Marshal Randall L. Baugus will lead a parade that begins at 10 a.m. Monday may 27 at Smith Park. The parade will proceed along Main Street to Verity Parkway to Woodside Cemetery. Ceremonies begin at the cemetery at 11:30 a.m. and feature a speech by Command Sergeant Major Sgt. Maj. Alex Lackey of the U.S. Army Reserves.

WEST CHESTER

Memorial Day Parade – West Chester Township community parade ends at Brookside Cemetery. Grand Marshal, Joe Wright. Ceremony honoring veterans both past and present follows. Guest speakers.
