Producer and gospel/soul music’s multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Doobie Powell is preparing for his new DVD recording and we hear the singer/songwriter has a few tricks up his sleeve and coming our way this week. The live session takes place on tomorrow – Tuesday, May 11th – at Gospel Uptown in New York City and is the accompaniment to Powell’s latest release The Time Is Now.

The session, alongside special presentations from Doobie Powell’s ensemble of other talented musicians and singers, will also stream live at the website for ShowMeThat.com, a unique experience and web-based feature for high definition instructional videos, concerts, event documentaries and more. Log on via the link above to find out the airtime for the live HD experience with Doobie Powell tomorrow evening. Don’t forget to look for special guests like Daryl “88” Young & Friends, gospel bass legend Reggie Young, Randy Jenkins, Kyle Scott and Daiquan Davis.

As an independent artist whose developed a strong underground following in the music business, Doobie Powell has gained the support and ministry endorsement of such top of the line gospel greats as The Clark Sisters, Kim Burrell, Pastor John P. Kee, Tonex, Kelly Price and Tramaine Hawkins among others. Powell is also the founder of Chip Off The Block Productions, LLC. With a total of five near perfect solo projects (all released independently) already attached to his name, as you can see, Doobie has already left quite an indelible mark within the new wave of producers, instrumentalists, singers and songwriters honing their craft just beneath the surface of mainstream or contemporary gospel music.

Powell (born Hubert Leander Powell III) was born to Hubert L. Powell II and Jacqueline Powell on June 14, 1975 in Hartford, CT. Together with the late Ebony Powell Doobie has a daughter, Diamond L. Powell. Doobie is also currently the Minister of Music at Latter Rain Christian Fellowship in Hartford, CT where his parents are the pastors.

Innovative arrangements of raw funk accompanied by the kind of soul/gospel music you’d hear at a late night jam session with a remnants of a slight worship-oriented flare are key words to describe Doobie Powell’s style for spirit-filled saints with an already eclectic ear or for those attempting to expand their musical horizons.
