One of the most well-known underground cartoonists has turned the Bible’s book of Genesis into an illustrated comic book starring God as a superhero, according to the Washington Times.

“The Book of Genesis Illustrated by R. Crumb” was published last month, and will go on display at Los Angeles’ Hammer Museum until Friday. It’s also slated for exhibition in other cities, including New York and Portland, Ore., through February 2010.

Crumb, who described his Marine father as a closet atheist, said “I don’t think ‘Genesis’ is a good place to look for spiritual guidance or moral guidance,” he continues. “I don’t believe it’s the word of God.”

Crumb is best known for drawing voluptuous women and nerdy looking, well-endowed men. He put the phrase “Keep on Truckin’ ” into the national vocabulary.
