Since it’s Friday, I thought I’d give you all a nice little treat to kick off the weekend. Here’s the funky new praise jam from one of gospel music’s most beloved voices and legendary artists Karen Clark Sheard of The Clark Sisters. Hot off the release of her brand new solo project “All In One,” which finally hit stores earlier this month (see our article Royalty Returns), Karen Clark Sheard’s lead single “Prayed Up” is propelling the singer’s album straight up the charts. Sheard currently holds the third best-selling gospel album in the country according to Billboard.com. The single was also produced by her son, J. Drew “JDS” Sheard II, the next member of the family to carry out the Clark legacy.

The clip below features her live performance of “Prayed Up” from this winter’s Gospel Superfest 2010 filmed at Xavier University’s Cintas Center. With thousands in attendance to see the hottest acts, the Detroit diva shut the stage down during her segment with one signature moment.

Check out this clip at 1:15. It proves Karen is back and in perfect voice. There are some impeccable riffs and runs in this performance. From her spontaneous scatting to the effortless way her powerful soprano voice soars high into the sky, Karen’s gift is still unmatched. And the fact that the song is a hype churchy tune doesn’t take away from it’s message. (For the music lovers reading, this song actually feels like Beyonce’s “Work It Out” produced by Pharrell Williams. Remember that one, too?)

Gospel fans currently seem to really enjoy this record and we hope you do, too. With its fresh, innovative spin on gospel and the D.C. GoGo sound, Karen Clark Sheard’s “Prayed Up” makes you want to get up and party for Jesus anywhere. So why not? Press play, turn your speakers up and let’s cut a rug. Have a blessed weekend Cincinnati!
