Minority contractors left yesterday’s job-creation committee meeting a little hopeful, after hearing the good news from the Rock Gaming company. Yesterday, the company announced that they will pay minority- and woman-owned contractors $40 million dollars to build their casino downtown.
Construction begins this year, with the ground-breaking happening this friday. In March, the company will give out construction bids to contractors involved with excavation and foundation work. In April, the company will give out bids to contractors involved with electricity, framing, and heating and cooling systems.
During yesterday’s meeting, Rock Gaming urged minority- and women-owned contractors to contact the Greater Cincinnati African American Chamber of Commerce. Once they contact the organization, they’ll need to fill out a pre-qualification form. To contact the chamber, check out their website.
