Today marks the sixth day of Kwanzaa, the week-long celebration honoring universal African-American heritage and culture. Each day a different principle is observed. Yesterday was the observance of Nia, to have purpose. Today the principle of Kuumba, which is Swahili for creativity, is observed. To learn more about this day, check out the video below.

During this day, ask yourself this question: what can I do to encourage the creativity within your family/community? Are you using your gift of creativity to its fullest? If you are not one to draw, paint or sew, can you support by giving supplies on cash donations? A good idea is to create poems and pictures with your family. You can connect with neighbors in your community, find those with a common creative hobby, and start a club. Just solving everyday problems within your life with innovative ideas is a perfect way to practice today’s principle.
