Dohn Community High School has announced that the 2024-2025 academic year will be its last in operation.

CEO Bill Geraghty informed staff and families of the decision in a letter. He supported the administration’s commitment to finishing the year strong and providing students with quality education and support through June.

Dohn has faced a few issues in the past, including a state investigation into its finances— which caused a delayed start to this school year. They also changed leadership in October.

Founded in 2001 as an addiction recovery program for high school students, Dohn has grown to serve roughly 650 students. While the school itself will close, Oakmont Education, a charter school network, plans to continue operating at the McMillan Street location in the next school year. Additionally, negotiations are underway to sell the Reading Road building to another school. The other leased locations will close permanently.

“While this chapter of Dohn is coming to a close, our mission is not over,” Geraghty wrote. “We still have months ahead to make a difference in the lives of our students—to teach, to mentor, to encourage, and to prepare them for what’s next.”

The school is arranging meetings where Oakmont representatives can discuss options with parents and students. Meanwhile, the Ohio State Auditor’s office has confirmed that Dohn is currently under investigation by its Special Investigations Unit, though details have not been disclosed.
