LINCOLN HEIGHTS – Police say a 19-year-old who broke into a home on Monday and assaulted a 3-year-old child also unleashed his fury on two police officers who suffered minor injuries after the teen refused to be taken into custody. Deamonta

Williams, 19, of Springdale faces a slew of charges after he kicked in the front door of a home in the 9900 block of Mangham Drive just before 4 p.m. and hurt the child, according to Lincoln Heights Police Chief Ronald Twitty.

Lincoln Heights officers approached Williams in a second-story bedroom at the residence, Twitty said. The teenager had two warrants issued in Hamilton County for his arrest stemming from an incident earlier this month when he tried to buy cigarettes without an ID and refused to cooperate with police when the store owner said Williams had tried to buy cigarettes with false identification before. He failed to appear in court on misdemeanor charges of falsification and obstructing official business.

When officers approached Williams on Monday he punched Officer David Smack in the right eye, causing a small laceration above his eye and swelling around the eye, Twitty said.

Smack called for backup while police continued to fight the 160-pound teenager. In the struggle, Officer Michael Lowe suffered a broken bone in the tip of his left ring finger, Twitty said.

Police tried to subdue Williams with a Taser and chemical irritant, but neither stopped the suspect from fighting with the officers, Twitty said.

Williams and the two officers were transported to University Hospital for medical treatment. Williams suffered several minor lacerations to his forearms and neck area as officers tried to get him under control, Twitty said.

It is unclear when Williams will appear in court to face the charges filed Monday, including two counts of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal damaging, three counts of assault and aggravated burglary.
