Actor and comedian Lil Rel Howery made it very clear on the MTV TV & Movie Awards that he would never forget where he came from. The actor is currently promoting his new film, Uncle Drew, and while on the carpet let it be known that Black Media would get first dibs at interviewing him.

“I want to start with the people who are actually supporting me, have supported me and will actually put the content out there,” he said in an interview with The Times. “Then, I’ll talk to everyone else, but that’s who I’m going to start with first.”

Rel’s comments come a week after Black Media criticized actors and publicists for ignoring them on the carpet, or placing them at the end of red carpets during events.

“Some of us black stars forget what was sitting on that little table when we were growing up,” he continued. “That was how we knew who was who, but we seem to have forgotten that. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I just want fairness.”
