Miguel Pilgram – Pilgram Group – Coral Springs – 2015

Miguel Pilgram‘s life changed in 2010 when he selected a random set of numbers for a lottery ticket and won the $52 million jackpot. Using his winnings to create his The Pilgram Group real estate company, the Memphis native and former military man is hoping to revitalize a forgotten Black community in South Florida.

Pilgram, 48, was raised in Memphis and credits his parents as role models. The former U.S. Navy Petty Officer began working for a cruise company and traveled the world before settling in South Florida with his wife and two children. A chance stop at a local gas station for a lottery ticket proved fruitful, and he immediately flipped the winnings into something viable.

The Pilgram Group has worked on several projects across South Florida, but the focus on Sistrunk Boulevard, which has been hailed as an important part of Fort Lauderdale’s Black community, is a passion project that Pilgram is putting his all into. He plans to bring a series of restaurants, a bank, and a blues nightclub to the region. The boulevard hasn’t had a nightclub establishment for live entertainment in over 25 years.

In an interview with several outlets since the announcement of his plans, Pilgram has said the reason his company is focused on Sistrunk Boulevard is that he grew up in a similarly tight-knit community where opportunity and collaboration took place. Along with the aforementioned plans, the company will also create an arts center where Pilgram will offer affordable rental space for programs and others to gather.
