In an apparent reversal, Ben Carson may decide to accept a position in President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet after all. Trump tweeted on Tuesday that he’s “seriously considering” Carson for secretary of housing and urban development.

Last week Carson’s spokesman, Armstrong Williams, announced that the former presidential candidate would decline a cabinet post because he lacks experience overseeing a large federal agency. Carson’s name had been floating around as a possible candidate for secretary of health and human services.

Carson reiterated to the Washington Post that he prefers to advise Trump from outside the White House, adding the he “would be like a fish out of water” serving as a bureaucrat.

But, in his conversation with The Post, Carson left the door open: “I’ve said that if it came to a point where he absolutely needs me, I’d reconsider.”

Following Trump’s tweet, Williams told ABC News that Carson is thinking about the offer.

“Dr. Carson has tremendous respect for the president-elect and will always consider whatever request the president-elect makes of him,” Williams told ABC News after Carson’s met on Tuesday with Trump.
