Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are standing in the same spot in the very first trailer for Fences, Washington’s latest directorial effort.
Based on the play by August Wilson, a revival of which Washington and Davis starred in six years ago, Fences tells the story of a retired baseball player and his family in 1950s Pittsburgh. Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sydney all costar in the film, which has a Christmas Day release date.
The powerful first trailer takes place in the backyard, featuring a conversation between Troy (Washington) and his son (Adepo) about parental responsibility when it comes to love and support. The teaser ends with an intense tête-à-tête between Troy and his wife Rose (Davis).
