An unrepentant Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) declined to backpedal on his statement that non-European cultures made no contributions to civilization.

On Wednesday, King doubled down, telling The Washington Post it’s time for this nation to stop promoting the idea of cultural equality.

“The idea of multiculturalism, in that every culture is equal — that’s not objectively true,” he told The Post’s Philip Rucker.

King explained his view:

“The sum total that’s been contributed by Western civilization, it surpasses any other culture of civilization, partly because we borrowed from them along the way, and we’re flexible enough to do that. And so I don’t think we should apologize for our success.”

This all began on Monday during an MSNBC panel discussion at the Republican National Convention. Esquire’s Charles Pierce noted the lack of diversity and high level of anger among the Republican delegates. Pierce said this could be their last chance to dictate the party’s direction.

King told The Post that Pierce’s remarks could not go unanswered.

“He was disparaging a group of people — a subgroup of people, old White people — and saying they’re going to be out of the politics of the Republican Party,” the Iowa congressman said.

Rucker pointed out to King that he’s engaging in identity politics, which his party often accuses President Barack Obama of playing.

King denied it. He stated his comments could help the nation move past our focus on skin color.
