Marking a win for the Black Lives Matter movement in Cleveland, Ohio, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty lost his bid for re-election to Michael O’Malley. Voters pushed out McGinty by giving O’Malley 56 percent of the vote. The 64-year-old faced criticism for his decisions in the police-related shooting of Tamir Rice last year. McGinty, who had served as the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor for four years, gave well wishes to O’Malley after his loss. “I wish him nothing but the best. I love the Prosecutor’s Office, and I am proud of all that we have accomplished and of all the outstanding dedicated professionals who work there,” he said. “I will do everything I can to help Mike, the Office and the County succeed.” O’Malley is a former assistant prosecutor under McGinty’s predecessor Bill Mason. Washington D.C. Subway To Close For Over A Day For Inspection

After a fire near the McPherson Square station occurred on Monday, safety officials have decided to close down the Washington D.C. subway from Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday. The decision will affect over 700,000 weekday commuters who use the Metrorail system. Metro CEO and General Manager Paul Wiedefeld said the closing will be tough, but the fire alerted officials to concerns about the system’s cables in both directions. “While the risk to the public is very low, I cannot rule out a potential life-safety issue here,” Wiedefeld said. “When I say safety is the highest priority, I mean it.” Check out more details here.

Lezley McSpadden Endorses Hillary Clinton For President

During the middle of ballot casting in Missouri Tuesday, the mother of Michael Brown announced her official endorsement of presidential Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Lezley McSpadden met with Clinton last year alongside other mothers who lost their children in police shootings. Brown, 18, was shot and killed by former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in August 2014. McSpadden explained during her endorsement that Clinton’s commitment to tackling criminal justice reform and better gun control laws swayed her. “Parents are not supposed to bury their children, especially by murder,” she said. “But the reality is, that far too many black parents have; not just by senseless gunfire but by lawful gunfire. Enough is Enough.” Read the rest of her endorsement here.
