Twenty-five years ago today, the videotaped police beating of Rodney King brought police brutality and racial inequality to the forefront of public discourse, social issues that still reverberate today.

Twenty-five years ago today, in the early morning hours of March 3, 1991, what should have been a routine police stop for excessive speeding became a watershed event in America’s history of race relations.
