Talk about a poker face.

The family of Henry Rosario Martinez, 31, of Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, held a wake recently that allowed the man who died on Jan. 19 to do what he loved most: play poker one last time, according to the New York Daily News. He was embalmed to allow his corpse to sit at a card table.

I want him to be remembered as a happy person because he was always like that,” mother Sonia Martine told UPI.

From the News:

Martinez was seated at the poker table, as friends and family posed for pictures with the deceased, who was wearing a New York Yankees cap.

The staff at Eternal Light Funeral Home in Barceloneta were only too happy to help with the family’s request and even said it was not unusual.

“It’s the first time we did this here, but we take it as something normal, because they have done these things in other parts of the island,” said funeral home owner Jose Mendelez.

Indeed, Martinez is not the first to have a life-like wake. Last year, Miriam Burbank–or rather, her corpse–caused a stir at her funeral in New Orleans. The 53-year-old was “propped up at a living room-style table, fully embalmed, holding a menthol cigarette in one hand and a case of Busch beer at her side, Burbank’s ‘last party,’” NewsOne reported.

What do you think of these types of wakes and funerals?
