Chicago Leaders Offer Olive Branch To Emanuel:
Andrea Zopp has every reason to call for embattled Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to resign. The Senate Democratic candidate is seeking a leg-up in a contested primary at a time when Emanuel’s handling of police violence has enraged many in the city’s large population of African-American voters.
But Zopp is declining to call on Emanuel to step aside.
“I certainly understand the frustration of those who are calling for the mayor’s resignation and their view that he has not handled these issues well,” Zopp, a former head of the Chicago Urban League, told CNN on Monday. “My view is that he is there, and he is paying attention and we have his ear. We ought to use it to drive real change.”
Missouri And A Dozen Other States Deal With Flooding:
The storm is over but the flooding is nowhere near ready to subside.
Many people in the central and Southern United States are looking out their windows and wondering whether the water will take their homes.
For some, it is beyond that time.
More than 18 million Americans live in areas under flood warnings, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Tuesday. Thirteen states are affected, NOAA said.
One of the states most affected is Missouri, which is grappling with deadly flooding that will threaten cities and towns along rivers for days even through the most of the rain has stopped.
Levees have been overtopped in West Alton, just north of St. Louis. And late Tuesday, St. Charles County emergency officials ordered all people to evacuate the mostly rural area, which lies on the Mississippi River.
Filipino Priest Rapped For Christmas Eve Hoverboard Stunt:
A priest in the Philippines has been reprimanded by church leaders for his creative idea to get worshipers moving during a Christmas service: using a hoverboard.
On Christmas Eve, the priest, who hasn’t been named, used the toy to glide in and out of rows of churchgoers while singing a Christmas song in English and Tagalog, which was caught on camera and has since gone viral.
His parishioners seemed to enjoy the performance, with many taking photos and video.
His bosses, though, weren’t so pleased — he has been reprimanded by church leaders, who criticized his use of what might have been an early present.
