‘Affluenza’ Teen Ethan Couch And His Mother Detained In Mexico, Officials Say:

So-called “affluenza” teen Ethan Couch and his mother have been detained by Mexican authorities near a popular Pacific resort town, officials briefed on the matter told CNN.

Couch, 18, went missing earlier this month in Texas where he was under probation for a 2013 drunk driving crash that killed four people and drew nationwide attention over his lawyers’ use of his privileged upbringing as part of their defense at trial.

He and his mother were detained near the Mexican beach resort of Puerto Vallarta, roughly 950 miles from home, officials told CNN on Monday.

The teenager is expected to be turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service, which has spent weeks searching for him. A spokesman for the service declined to comment Monday.

Harlem Globetrotter Meadowlark Lemon, Famed HoopsJester, Dies At 83:

George “Meadowlark” Lemon, the basketball star who entertained millions of fans around the world with his antics as a longtime member of the Harlem Globetrotters, died Sunday in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 83.

Lemon played 24 seasons and by his own estimate more than 16,000 games with the Globetrotters, the touring exhibition basketball team known for its slick ball-handling, practical jokes, red-white-and-blue uniforms and multiyear winning streaks against overmatched opponents.

He also was one of a handful of Globetrotters whose fame transcended sports, especially among children during the team’s heyday in the 1960s and 1970s. Lemon was immortalized in a Harlem Globetrotters cartoon series and appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” episodes of “Scooby Doo” and many national TV commercials.

4 Soldiers Among 24 Dead In Massive Storm; More Severe Weather To Come:

A mammoth storm system engulfing much of the United States has claimed 24 lives, including four soldiers in Missouri. And it’s not over yet.

The rash of severe weather has spawned deadly tornadoes in Texas, intense flooding in the Midwest and blizzard conditions in New Mexico.

“The storm system will gradually pull away by Tuesday, but flooding and treacherous travel could (linger) into midweek,” the National Weather Service said.

There have been about 43 weather-related deaths in the past week across the country, with the current severe storm system blamed for 24.

The 24 deaths include 11 in the Dallas area, eight in Missouri and five in southern Illinois.
