The premiere episode of ‘Rich In Faith‘ on Oxygen introduced the television faith community to a couple that is living for Christ outside the box. Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr., 31, is a dynamic communicator with a passion to encourage and inspire young adults. Rich pastors Vous Church, a young, diverse weekly gathering in the heart of Miami, Florida. Growing up in Tacoma, Washington Rich always had a strong desire to preach the gospel and is a fourth-generation pastor. Pastor DawnCheré Wilkerson, 31, is a speaker, singer-songwriter, and pastor who loves nothing more than to encourage people of all ages to never give up. Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, DawnCheré grew up as a preacher’s kid and loves her large Southern family. In fact, her father left a successful career in the NFL to go into ministry. Following in her father’s footsteps, DawnCheré reveals a uniquely impactful perspective on life through her contagious joy and zeal.

The show jumped right into the thick of it with the premiere episode.  Rich has felt the calling on his soul to open a church that inspires and uplifts a new generation. In a spirit check-in with his dad he receives a stern warning. His father says, ‘You can take down a legacy, if you are not careful.’ Rich is struck terrified and shocked. It is apparent, on camera, that Rich never expected his father to say that to him.

It is only at  his first sermon after his discussion with his father that  affirms that he will open a new church, when  he poses the question:

Are you scared?

The rest of the episode dealt with that question. It’s a question that most of us run from. Tonight’s episode  reminded us that we should live in Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Many of us tend to use fear for motivation. We fear failure, so we work harder to succeed. As Christians, we don’t need to fear, because we have a relationship with a God who is faithful and dependable. Instead of using fear for motivation, we can use the promises of God. We can enter situations without fear knowing that God will protect us. It is good to know that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
