Democratic presidential candidate Lincoln Chafee’s campaign journey has come to an end. Chafee, who served as the former governor of Rhode Island, announced that he will drop out of the race today. “As you know I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace,” said Chafee. “But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today. I would like to take this opportunity one last time to advocate for a chance be given to peace.” Chafee entered the presidential race in June, but has had a rocky campaign trail, often doubting himself at times. Rep. Paul Ryan Eyeing House Speaker Spot
Yesterday, Rep. Paul Ryan announced that he is looking to become the next House Speaker after garnering support from his colleagues. He got the backing of two out of three factions that were essential for him to launch his campaign. “After talking with so many of you, and hearing your words of encouragement, I believe we are ready to move forward as a one, united team,” said Ryan in a statement. “And I am ready and eager to be our speaker.” If Rep. Beyoncé Wins $7.1M Copyright Lawsuit
Jay Z and Beyoncé have been hit with copyright infringement lawsuits for their music left and right, but much like their position on the music charts, they’re coming out on top. Beyoncé recently won a $7.1 million lawsuit after being sued by singer Ahmad Javon Lane. Lane filed the lawsuit last year, claiming that Bey used a composition called “XOXO” that he shared with one of her dancers two years ago. After comparing the song to her hit “XO,” the judge deemed that there was no “substantial similarities.” “To be sure, both songs are directed toward a romantic interest. But beyond that, they diverge. XOXO’s lyrics are explicitly sexual, while XO’s are substantially more tame and metaphorical,” wrote the judge. “An appreciative fan would term Lane’s track seductive and personal, and Beyoncé’s track joyous and uplifting.” Read more.
A&E to Air Special about Race Relations in America
A new television special on A&E will push the conversation about racial inequality forward. The one-hour program titled, Shining a Light: Conversations on Race in America, will follow artists like Pharrell and John Legend as they go into neighborhoods in Charleston, Ferguson, and Baltimore to get perspectives from the locals about the state of race relations in our country. “The current racial situation in America is at a critical point,” said executive producer Ken Ehrlich. “Today’s musical artists, much like those of the civil rights movement’s history, have strong feelings about what’s going on today, and we’re hopeful that ‘Shining a Light’ does, in fact, give a voice to their concerns, their hopes, and their thinking about solutions to the alarming events that we see around us every day.” The special is slated to air on Friday, November 20 at 8PM ET.
