Comedian Tracy Morgan has settled a lawsuit with Walmart after a crash involving one of the retail giant’s trucks last year left the future of his career uncertain, according to the New York Daily News.
Morgan was traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike on June 7 when his limo van was rear-ended by one of the company’s 18-wheelers, killing comedy writer James McNair and leaving Morgan with a broken leg and broken ribs.
Morgan, 46, best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock,” has not appeared publicly since the incident, notes the Washington Post.
Terms of the deal reached with the star and other passengers in the van are confidential, but Morgan says, “I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably,” the News writes.
From the NY Daily News:
In court papers filed Wednesday, lawyers for Walmart, Morgan, Jeffrey Millea and Ardley Fuqua asked a judge to seal court papers about “their confidential settlement negotiations and the final settlement figures.”…
The superstore — which has a market value of $241 billion — settled wrongful death claims with the children of the Morgan pal who was killed in the crash, James (uncle Jimmy Mack) McNair, for $10 million, court records show…
The truck driver, Kevin Roper, has been charged with vehicular homicide and assault by auto. Morelli has said he was going 65 mph when he smashed into Morgan’s limo.
We wish Morgan all the best in his health and career.
