The University of South Carolina has been added to the growing list of campuses in the news for racial incidents, after a student was suspended for using the word “n*gger” on social media, the New York Daily News reports.

The unidentified student posted a photo featuring “Reasons Why USC Wifi Blows” and used the racial slur alongside other reasons like “ratchets,” “incompetent professors,” and more.

The photo was posted on the user’s Snapchat page, an application that allows a window of ten seconds or less to view photos and videos. Users quickly screenshot the photo and posted it on various other social media outlets, such as Twitter.

On Friday, USC President Harris Pastides released a statement notifying the public of the student’s suspension. While the student violated a code of conduct, it is unclear if she will be expelled.

“Today, the unfortunate and disappointing act of a student in a study room has challenged the Carolina community to reflect on our values and tell the world what we believe. Respect for all is at the heart of the Carolinian Creed, the code by which we agree to abide. Racist and uncivil rhetoric have no place at the University of South Carolina.

We have taken appropriate actions to suspend a student and begin code of conduct investigations. The Board of Trustees has endorsed this prompt course of action.

Let us now come together as a university community to reaffirm our commitment to each other as a Gamecock family.”

USC is the latest school to face scrutiny for racist and ignorant acts. Last week, a now former student from Duke University confessed to placing a noose around a tree. Bucknell University expelled three students for stating “black people should be dead” and “lynch ‘em,” during a radio broadcast.
