Hillary Clinton_640x427A few months ago Hillary Clinton came under fire after she refused to comment on the protests that took place in Ferguson following the death of Michael Brown. Now, the former First Lady is breaking her silence and is showing support for African Americans who never seem to get justice from the institutions supposedly formed to uphold that very principle. While accepting an award from the the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights at a gala on Tuesday, Clinton spoke about the importance of equality and human rights. She denounced torture, and touched on how using violence against terrorism in other countries or to reduce crime in this country is not the answer. “Yes, black lives matter,” she said while delivering her speech. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, recently spoke out on the Eric Garner case saying he “didn’t deserve to die.” Read more.


NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer Considers Settling Lawsuit By Eric Garner’s Family

New York City Controller Scott Stringer is pondering the possibility of settling a planned $75 million lawsuit filed against the city by the family of Eric Garner. Stringer believes that settling the claim before it is taken to court will save both Garner’s family and the city from having to deal with a long case. “There are advantages of settling early and not going to court,” said Stringer. “Every case is different, and I’m not going to prejudge this case. We’re not going to talk about the specifics, because as I said, this is very early in the process.” Stringer made it clear that the settlement is far from final and has yet to talk to Garner’s family and its attorneys. Stephen Hill Appointed to BET’s President of Programming

BET Networks has announced that Stephen Hill has been appointed to the President of Programming. Prior to taking on this position, Hill was President of Music Programming and Specials at BET. In his new role, he will manage the network’s original programming, music programming and specials, and BET news. “I have worked with Stephen for over 15 years, and his passion for the BET brand has been apparent from the very beginning. He has grown our music shows and specials into iconic and highly-rated programs beloved by our audience,” said Debra L. Lee, Chairman and CEO of BET Networks. Lee continued, “Over the past several years, he has expanded his role into scripted programming, launching our hit series ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood.’ He is well-qualified and ready for this new challenge and I am excited to have him in this new role.” Read more.
