KiKi Shepard's K.I.S. Foundation Host 10th Annual Celebrity Bowling Challenge

Remember Doc Shaw from The Disney Channel and Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne?” The child actor is all grown up, and has slimmed down since his first days on the small screen. Shaw talked about the importance of fighting childhood obesity today on “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin. Family history of diabetes inspired him to get healthy.

Shaw encourages parents to take their children out for walks, and to maintain a new fit lifestyle with self determination. If a child needs to get better in shape, he suggests using games they already have in order to take off the pounds. “As much time as kids play on video games and Xbox and PlayStation,” said Shaw, “they have Kinect games and other outlets on how you can go about losing weight.”

“You really don’t need the motivation of someone else,” he continued, “although it helps, but at the same time you have to find it in yourself to want to work out.”

Be sure to tune in to NewsOne Now with Roland Martin, weekdays at 7 a.m. EST.
