The 2013 Black Girls Rock! awards are right around the corner, and this year’s special honorees will include songstress Patti Labelle and talk show host Queen Latifah.
According to a statement by founder Beverly Bond, the event will also recognize tennis champion Venus Williams, screenwriter-producer Mara Brock Akil, ballet dancer Misty Copeland, community organizer Ameena Matthews and children’s rights advocate Marian Wright Edelman.
“Each of the women whom we are celebrating this year epitomize the champion’s spirit as applicable to their respective fields,” says Bond. “They are anchored by a fierce commitment to their craft or cause; they have shown the ability to navigate multiple sectors and industries successfully; and they are conscious about the role they play in enriching our society and culture. They absolutely Rock!”
The ceremony, which will tape on Saturday, October 26 in Newark, premieres on BET Sunday, November 3 at 7 p.m.
Congratulations to all the honorees! You do rock!
