Handcuffs can’t hold Lawrence Mason back. The Queens native was arrested on Saturday afternoon near West 116th Street and Lennox Avenue for drug possession, but managed to escape police while still handcuffed before running into the subway. It’s not exactly clear how the 52-year-old managed to evade police, but law enforcement sources say some suspects become dead weight by allowing their knees to buckle so they can flee when officers loosen their grip.
Police told the New York Post that Mason probably darted through the tunnels by following the tracks for the 2 and 3 trains heading southbound. Cops are still searching for the career criminal, who has been arrested at least 14 times, mostly on drug charges.
