A U.S. soldier, and Norwood native, will avoid the death penalty for his role in the deaths of 16 Afghan civilians.
Attorneys for Robert Bales have reached a deal for a guilty plea in the case.
Bales was charged with 17 counts of murder, and more charges of assault and attempted murder in the killings last year.
