A Maderia man, who had $600,000 stolen from him, has asked the judge to not jail the thief nor make him pay the money back.

82-year-old Wilmer Purdy told Judge Nadine Allen he believed his thief, Duayne Brower, badly needed the money to pay for debt and medical expenses. He told Judge Allen,

“The guy got down on his hands and knees, saying that he wrote a bad check. He needed help, so I helped him. He (Brower) said he would pay me back with the first money that he got.”

Because Purdy did not want him to go to jail, nor pay the money back, most of the charges were dropped for Brower.
