If things had gone differently in November, Representative Paul Ryan might have left the Capitol Monday as vice president of the United States.

Instead, he faced a less than warm welcome from ceremony spectators as he made his way to attend President Barack Obama’s second inauguration. A chorus of boos, to be exact.

According to National Review, the president’s call for a higher level of discourse wasn’t received by the crowd. A writer also pointed an accusatory finger at Department of Justice lawyer Dan Freeman for starting the chorus of boos.

Ryan served as Mitt Romney’s running mate during the 2012 election, and when they lost to Mr Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, Ryan was reelected to his Wisconsin congressional seat. When asked if he would attend the ceremony last week, the congressman described it to USA Today as his “obligation.”
