It happened on a Tuesday, exactly eleven years ago.

It was a “picture perfect” blue sky day. Two hijacked-airliners crossed the skies of New York, while New Yorkers were waking up and going to work. Little did they know that there lives would change forever.

At 8:46, five hijackers crashed American Airlines flight 11 into the north World Trade Center tower. At 9:03, United Airlines flight 173 crashed into the south World Trade Center tower. Another hijacked plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and a hijacked plane crashed in Pennsylvania.

Today, as they have for ten years, friends and family members of the victims will return to the scene of ground zero. Mourners will also convene at the Pentagon, and the Pennsylvania site of where the hijacked plane crashed.
