There has been a lot of controversy over new state voter I.D. laws. These laws are requiring people to show a photo I.D. or another form of identification in order to cast a vote. These laws have recently been enacted in Texas, Wisconsin, and most recently Pennsylvania.

A lot of people have voiced their opinion against these laws, saying that this is a “voter tax”. Critics such as Al Sharpton say that this is an aggressive effort by the GOP to roll back hard-won voting rights. State Representative Alicia Reece, when Ohio was attempting to pass voter ID laws, explained that this was an attempt by the GOP to stop people from voting for President Obama again. Looks like the state representative was on the nose.

A Pennsylvania GOP lawmaker held a press conference, after the law was passed, praising the new law and explaining how this new law could help Mitt Romney win. Here’s what Pa. Majority Leader, Mike Turzai said:

“Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.”
