Long simmering tensions between Hamilton Police and the city’s minority residents boiled over at a Hamilton City Council meeting Wednesday night, with several dozen residents demanding more citizen control of police and an end to what they consider racial profiling by officers.

Residents organized by local chapters of the NAACP and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) say their complaints about Hamilton police have been ignored for years.

When police representatives and city leaders failed to show up at a recent community town hall to address complaints, that was the last straw. Residents say they decided to bring their police complaints directly to city hall and city council.
