After the alleged burning, Best was on life support for 3 months and had burns over 70 percent of her body. Recalling the life-threatening incident, Best said:

I can just remember him pouring it on me and saying stuff, and I’m just pleading with him not to do it. He lit the match and threw it on me.

Of course, Brooks says he didn’t do it. Defense lawyer Rand Csehy said:

Orville Brooks lit a lighter that caused an explosion that caused Ms. Best to be burned.

Right.

At only 30 years old, Orville reportedly faces life plus 207 years. Best added:

I remember some neighbors coming up to me and asking me what happened. And I remember saying, ‘My momma told me to leave him.’

Words of wisdom. Heed them, ladies.
